{"id":3055,"date":"2019-09-20T17:10:32","date_gmt":"2019-09-20T17:10:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/content.theoneoff.com\/2019\/09\/20\/issue-09\/"},"modified":"2025-05-07T13:42:18","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T13:42:18","slug":"issue-09","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/content.theoneoff.com\/2019\/09\/20\/issue-09\/","title":{"rendered":"Issue #009"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Welcome to your Friday dose of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoneoff.com\/news\/too-x-too\">TOO x TOO<\/a> \u2013 Featuring brands joining the Global Climate Strike, Tim Walker\u2019s \u2018Wonderful Things\u2019 exhibition, Veja sustainable trainers and Airbnb&#8217;s collaboration with Downton Abbey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Brands join the Global Climate Strike<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A number of brands are taking action today to mark the Global Climate Strike, which invites people to shun schools and offices in favour to take to the streets to highlight humanity\u2019s impact on the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cosmetics retailer Lush has closed all of its stores, whilst Channel 4 are using their evening weather report to tune in with the strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patagonia have also launched their \u2018Facing Extinction\u2019 campaign mobilising young activists. The company founder, Yvon Chouinard released a statement that reads:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Wonderful Things\u2019 for the weekend<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tim Walker\u2019s long-awaited exhibition, \u2018Wonderful Things\u2019 is due to open at The V&amp;A museum in London, tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opening room of the exhibition is dedicated to portraits of Walker\u2019s previous subjects including Sir David Attenborough, David Hockney, Grayson Perry and Kate Moss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018Wonderful Things\u2019 then explodes into an exploration of colour, multiculturalism and history allowing visitors to experience the extraordinary creative process of one of the world\u2019s most inventive photographers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A more sustainable way of running<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fashion industry has recently come under much scrutiny due to its huge impact on the environment. Enter Veja, a sustainable trainer brand previously only a shoe choice for the Shoreditch hipster which hit the mainstream when modelled by non other than Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Veja have been working for over 15 years to preserve the rainforest as a valuable resource and this week announced the launch of its first ecological running shoe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018Condor\u2019 is made from 53% bio-based and recycled materials with the shoes upper constructed from 100% recycled bottles.
